MUSEUM OF THE FUTURE COP28
An interactive VR experience and touch wall at the United Nations COP28 Climate Change Conference, hosted at the Museum of the Future in Dubai, positioning InfraBuild and GFG Alliance’s recycled, lower-carbon steel at the centre of the green steel revolution.
Client: InfraBuild and GFG Alliance
Location: Dubai, UAE
THE CHALLENGE
Bringing Australian mining country to COP28
At COP28 in Dubai, GFG Alliance needed to tell its industrial transformation story to a global audience of policymakers, partners and press, most of whom will never stand on a mine site.
The operations at the heart of that story sit half a world away in the Australian outback. The challenge was to close that distance inside the Museum of the Future, one of the most demanding venues on earth for immersive work.
THE IMMERSIVE IDEA
A 360 journey from red dirt to green future
We delivered two connected experiences for the stand. An interactive VR journey lifts delegates over the group’s Australian operations: the red earth, the machinery and the sheer scale of resource country, captured in aerial 360.
Over that reality, a graphic layer tells the transformation story, with green forms sweeping across the landscape as the narrative moves from the industry of today toward the greener production the company is building.
WHY XR?
Scale that slides and speeches cannot carry
A mine site is a place you have to feel the size of. Immersive VR puts delegates above the pit rather than in front of a chart, making the industrial reality, and the scale of the transformation task, immediately tangible.
And because a conference stand serves every kind of visitor, the pairing mattered: VR for the deep individual journey, the touch wall for walk-up groups and conversations. Nobody left without touching the story.
INSIDE THE EXPERIENCE
Aerial capture meets a graphic story world
Aerial 360 footage anchors the experience in reality, while designed transitions carry viewers between chapters, folding the landscape into graphic sequences and back again.
The substance underneath is real decarbonisation strategy: electric arc furnaces recycling scrap steel at a fraction of the emissions of traditional blast furnaces, innovations like SENSE 600 reinforcing steel cutting embodied carbon by up to 35 percent, and a circular economy that turns over a million tonnes of scrap a year into the schools, hospitals and renewable projects of tomorrow.
The experience gives that story the scale and polish an international showcase demands.
THE IMPACT
An industrial story that travelled to the world stage
The experience gave GFG Alliance a way to put its operations and its ambitions in front of a United Nations climate conference audience, inside the Museum of the Future in Dubai.
For Catalyst XR it marked an expansion of our international footprint: work conceived and crafted in Australia, deployed on one of the world’s most prominent stages. It turned a corporate transformation narrative into something delegates could see, feel the scale of and remember.
